S from higher plant cells can become infected with plant viruses under special conditions, and it has been shown that yeast cells can become infected with viruses normally found in different fungal genera . We thought that naked yeast cells (yeast protoplasts) might provide a suitable system for demonstrating the infection of yeast cells with a virus such as tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). We report here how we infected yeast protoplasts with TMV and measured its multiplication in them.en
