This paper evaluates the key issues that need to be considered when conducting business process and information systems reengineering (BP&ISR) in Sri Lanka. The key issues, identified in a recent study of five leading organisations in Sri Lanka, are examined by conducting a BP&ISR action research study. The paper describes how the reengineering work was undertaken using a structured framework and considers the impact on process improvement of legacy IS/IT systems. The paper concludes by identifying the critical success factors for this study, and assesses the prospects for BP&ISR in Sri Lanka.en
