Abstract
A selection of original Victorian articles charting the rise of the sensation novel from the 1850s onwards. The articles, taken from a wide range of newpapers and magazines, record something of the controversy surrounding this important sub-genre and the critical debates it engendered. Also includes an annotated bibliography of 500 sensation novels.
