Abstract
If any composer can be said to have redefined the piano sonata in the last 100 years, that composer, with his 175 piano sonatas, is John White. With only a handful of exceptions, exposure of this large body of work has been limited in performances, let alone recordings, until recent years. The present CD features 15 sonatas, most of which are première recordings, and includes no 135, at 23 minutes one of the most substantial. Sonata 109 was broadcast on Radio 3 on 7/3/2012
