dc.description.abstract | Heritage tourism has developed as an international phenomenon, based on the historical and cultural resources of tourism destinations. This paper considers the role of heritage tourism as a product being developed by Ireland's tourism industry at a time when government policy is committed to the expansion of tourist arrivals to 5 million by the mid-1990s. The role of the National Tourism Organisation-Bord Filte-is critically examined in relation to its strategy to provide a framework for the development of heritage tourism in Ireland, and the implications for tourism development are discussed. © 1994 Taylor and Francis Group, LLC. | en |
