There have been few management concepts to have generated such enormous interest so quickly as the concept of business process reengineering (BPR). Case studies in the UK have revealed that in practice there a number of key issues that needs to be in place for a BPR project to succeed. A recent study of five leading mercantile and state owned organisations in Sri Lanka identified, environmental, cultural, business and IS/IT factors relevant when considering Business Process and Information Systems Reengineering (BP&ISR) initiatives. This paper synthesises the factors identified by these studies to provide a series of key issues that need to be taken into account when implementing BP&ISR in Sri Lanka. This study also compared BPR approaches used in the UK with those used to conduct BPR related projects in Sri Lanka.en
