The term 'paganism' was used by Christians as a derogatory term for non-Christian cultures. It has been associated with barbaric or sacrificial acts, but others believe it encourages peace, nature-loving and deeply spiritual relationships with the natural environment. This text discusses the meaning of paganism - exploring attitudes chronologically towards Paganism - from ancient times to the present. It considers Paganism through a Christian viewpoint, and how, over time, representations of Paganism reflects religious conflict and colonialism.en
