Abstract
A study of attendance patterns of women undergoing shared antenatal care between hospital obstetricians, community midwives and family practitioners showed that a large number of unnecessary visits were made. This caused considerable inconvenience and expense to the women concerned and contributed to overcrowding in clinics. Better coordination of the shared care service is indicated.
