Using Frankfurt’s Bahnhofsviertel (train station district) as a case study, thearticle examines how a new generation of Jewish and Muslim entrepreneursand cultural actors’ counters prejudice through ideas of hybridity, sharedinterests and minority experiences. It shows how Jewish–Muslim encounterslink neighborhood life with broader identity politics. Case studies illustratehow notions of conviviality are produced and challenged, and how urbanrenewal, commerce and culture offer opportunities but also limits, as localand subaltern perspectives are often overlooked.
