This is an introduction to a special issue on decolonisation in the context of the film industries and film education. As well as introducing contributors' arguments, this article frames the issue with resonant decolonial theories and poses the question, why decolonisation is absent in film industry discourses. The museum context is referred to as a useful comparison, as well as emergent discourses in decolonial film pedagogies - both of which provide important reference points throughout the issue. Moreover, the social context of decolonising discourses in the arts and culture more broadly is discussed, situating this in relation to protest movements and distinguishing this from contemporary diversity initiatives.
