This article describes my journey of analysing my doctoral data narratively. It starts with the use of narrative inquiry, a research methodology which studies experience as story, and moves to autoethnography, an autobiographical research approach, in the form of my personal narrative. I use four key metaphors as a means of exploring the relationship between both methodologies, painting a picture of my experience of narrative data analysis and helping to understand that experience. Implications of using narrative inquiry and autoethnography for educational practice are then offered.en
