The effects of nanoparticles of CuO on delayed rectifier potassium current (Ik) were studied in acutely isolated CA1 pyramidal neurons of rat hippocampus by using the whole-cell patch-clamp techniques and the effects on differentiated PC12 cell viability were studied with MTT assay. Nanoparticles of CuO mainly inhibited Ik in the concentration of 5×10-5 g/mL. Nanoparticles of CuO didn't shift the steady-state activation curve of Ik but negatively shift the inactivation curve of Ik. Nanoparticles of CuO (5×10-4, 5×10-5 and 5×10-6 g/mL) induced differentiated PC12 cells damage with dose-and time-dependent manner.en
