The Electricomics Project
Electricomics was a research and development project funded by the NESTA Digital R&D fund for the Arts that aimed to create a self-publishing ecosystem for digital comics. In my role as a research partner on the project I contributed expertise on the history, design, creation and operation of digital comics. This expertise fed into the creation of The Electricomics coming-reading app, four professionally produced digital comics and a free, open-source toolkit for digital comic creation. As part of the project’s outreach I was invited to present on our progress at events in both the UK and abroad. I organised The Comic Electric symposium at The University of Hertfordshire, the first ever English-language research symposium focused on digital comics. I also acted as co-author on a paper examining digital pages and rhythms of reading and on the final NESTA Research & Development Report.
